About
Megan Seely is an award-winning writer/director/actress who has honed her ability to use dark comedy to reveal unspoken everyday truths.
She is currently on the festival circuit with her debut feature film Puddysticks, which she wrote, directed, and starred in alongside Dan Bakkedahl (Veep), Emmy-nominee Mamoudou Athie (Kinds of Kindness) and Danny Deferrari (Shiva Baby), produced by Alex Coco (Palme d’Or Winner Anora, A24’s Red Rocket).
In 2021, she released her fictional podcast Every Year on My Half Birthday, which she created and starred in with Dan Bakkedahl and Peter Vack (The Sweet East).
Her short, My Loyal Audience, which she wrote, directed, and starred in, won the favorite film of the Catalina Film Festival and best Emerging Filmmaker at the Sunscreen Film Festival, and has played across the nation, including at the Florida Film Festival, Newport Beach Film Festival, and Santa Fe Independent Film Festival.
She co-wrote The Mad Whale, a feature starring Camilla Belle, Summer Phoenix, Dominic Rains, and James Franco (now streaming on Amazon Prime), and has worked closely with Borderline Films (Sean Durkin, Antonio Campos, Josh Mond), Indian Paintbrush (Wes Anderson's company), and the Art of Elysium.
As an actress, she played opposite breakout star Helena Howard in Twist, which premiered in competition at the Tribeca Film Festival, on which she also served as co-producer. It won the jury prize at the Florida Film Festival, and qualified for the 2021 Academy Awards. She studied with Harry Mastrogeorge and can be seen in the first ever Filipino-American musical feature film The Girl Who Left Home and Amanda Kramer’s upcoming visual album for pop duo Magdalena Bay.
Megan received her M.F.A. in Film & Television Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts and her B.A. from Vanderbilt University.
